China sourcing price index
What a kilogram of goods costs leaving China, by category and destination, 2021–2024. Derived from UN trade statistics: declared shipment value divided by shipment weight. Anyone can reproduce these figures from the same open API.
What it measures, and what it does not
- It measures: the declared customs value per kilogram of goods leaving China for the stated market. That is the price at the factory gate plus export clearance — before freight, duties and any markup in the destination country.
- It does not measure: what a local supplier charges for the same thing. Customs data has no visibility into that, so this index neither supports nor contradicts any claim about savings. It is about what goods cost, not about the gap between two prices.
- Each HS code covers a wide basket: 9403 holds both an office cabinet and a premium kitchen. The figure is sound as a category benchmark and as a year-on-year trend, not as the price of a specific item.
- Annual data is published with a lag; the most recent available year is 2024.
